    Yoga + Calisthenics, FTW!

Something I see on this forum with surprising frequency is the question "how do I get in shape?" The answer is always "you get in shape by eating well and training." Sometimes the reaction is an excuse why that won't work ("I'm not flexible enough for yoga," "I can't afford the gym," "my man-boobs are too sore") or a promise that "I'll start training after I get in shape." Well, that's all bullshit. If you ever find yourself making an excuse why you can't train, watch Arthur Boorman — a 297 lb (135 kg) disabled veteran on crutches — drop 130 lb (59 kg) in less than nine months and teach himself not only to walk again, but to run, by doing yoga and calisthenics at home:

YouTube - DDP and YRG help disabled veteran walk again.

I tell people that Yoga is as hard a workout as you are willing to make it, and look at that, further proof. Way to go, and I hope that guy keeps it up.

    Awesome.
The hood mentality is crippling disease, that attacks your nervous system. It makes you nervous of the system. Gangsters and hood rats are especially susceptible to this growth stunting mentality. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. This makes me want to become a better person. If this guy can lose so much, I know I can too. Not that I am too heavy for my size, but I do need to get in shape.

    Thanks for posing this.

I think there is something fundamentally wonderful and inspiring about seeing someone overcome adversity with nothing more than sheer will. I don't have any weight problems, but this definitely makes me want to physically better myself anyhow.

Damn. Pardon the cliche, but this is one of those cases that helps to prove that if you can change your mind/attitude, you can completely change your entire freaking life. **15** years on canes and in 9 months he can run, and not just run, but open it up and sprint. Hats off to you Arthur!
