hi again........i myself am not sure where and who trained him in bjj, maybe try again 2 contact him 2 find out???but as i said earlier,,,if carl lives in cape town there is no harm for him to come check it out and then he can ask all the questions he wants directly with shihan paul cave.......and to answer the question about the world championships in the states......>>it happens once a year, iether in orlando florida or at the taj mahaal in las vegas.......>>when i went in 93 there were all forms of fighting, including weapons and even kung fu which as u know is very traditional.it was long time ago but i think it is the world kickboxing championships......i dont know if u remember mike bernado, but he faught in the k1 series a while back.he was one of our students..........i know theres lots of pollitics involved when pl talk about different clubs and gyms,,which is why it would be best to physically go check out all the ones that interst you...If its just grappling u wanna do and nothing else,,then i would say go join the graccie gym in town.not sure exactly where they are??.......good luck......cheers

Style: BJJ--
You have to send the instructor a text message to say you won't be in class? That is completely mental... edging toward a cult where the leader has total control over everyone.
hondathan, if you are a student then surely you can just ask Paul Cave what BJJ rank he holds and who promoted him? It's a question any BJJ will be happy to answer, we tend to place a lot of importance on lineage as it still only normally 4, at most, steps back to the founders. -

Hondathan. Thanks for your reply. The 2 very simple questions remain unanswered. What lineage is Paul Cave's from (BJJ) and what belt are himself or his instructors in that form of martial arts. When one introduces themselves as specialised instructors, surely they have the relevant "backing" to answer it. Entering Goju Kai or ISKA tournaments or picking the SA team for those tournaments doesnt make you a qualified BJJ instructor. . A blue belt that has been training for 2 years in BJJ could be considered a specialised BJJ instuctor. Not the greatest qualifications but qualifications non the less. I have called both BJJ clubs in Cape Town ( Gracie Barra and Gracie Cape Town) and NON of the instructuctors shunned the questions that I asked. Internet research has also qualified them as legitimate and specialised BJJ schools. Why couldn't Paul Cave go the same????????
Gary: I think there is only 1 QUALIFIED SOUTH AFRICAN BJJ instructor. Nick Gregoriades is South African, although living in London and training under Renzo Gracie, and a black belt instructor. COME ON PAUL CAVES. I DONT GIVE A SHITE IF YOU ARE A WHITE BELT or BLACK BELT BJJ INSTUCTOR.IF A QUESTION IS ASKED. ANSWER IT. SURELY YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE!!!!! -

Nick Gregoriades received his Black Belt last year from Roger Gracie (at least, it was Roger tying it on in the photos I saw).
hondathan; we appreciate you trying to help but unfortunately you're not able to answer the original question. sapateiro's original response is how Mr Cave should have answered; with rank, lineage and even info on how to confirm it." There's no need to apologise mate :)

As Asriel says, Nic is a Roger Gracie Black Belt. There is also at least one other South African BJJ Black Belt that I'm aware of: Rodney King of Crazy Monkey fame.

no its not like a cult...its called respect....if you cant make it for work you have to phone to let them know,right,...well same thing with a teacher/instructor.its simple manners....The club/instructors do care if you cant make it as you will miss out on the training and may miss out on new techniques etc...they dont just take your money and dont care if you dont come...they want every one to learn as much as possible.....
