i have studies under this so called martial arts "guru" paul cave, but instead for years you will do the same stuff over and over and whatever he sais can not be questioned or discussed. when you join this so called nma you become a number and a pawn in his hands and in the hands of his puppet dog karel van der merwe...please stay away. you can ask as much as you want you will never het any valid response regarding paul cave's training.....personally i think he studies from dvd's and then RULE the dojos witj no question's asked.

My primary instructor (1983-2004) was also well qualified and loved the questions. The older he got, the more he liked to talk. He also delegated a lot of the teaching down to his senior students (talked more, taught less).
Instructors should be able to answer questions about their art. -

Well I've just read the entirety of this thread and noticed that it started in 2009, the last post was in 2012... Which means in just about 3 years we've still not found out if Paul Cave is a legitimate BJJ trainer... I'm saying it's fairly doubtful. Even a close friend of his didn't seem to either have the answers nor want to provide them. Though I did find it hilarious that such a simple question has been drawn out over years and we still don't have an answer :).

I know this is a really old post but I felt I needed to come forward|Im a ex student at Paul Caves NMA and felt like I was not learning anything because the classes were quiet static kickboxing, points fighting, pad work etc. Only reason I stayed for so long was because of the friends I made at one of his dojo's. One particular incident I remember was when he adressed the class about the fees increase where accused other places as "Mickey Mouse" organizations and said other clubs/dojo's were one dimensional (Gracie Jiu Jitsu was mentioned) one thing I can tell you about Shihan Paul Cave:He treats martial arts like a business and a way to get rich.

I've read his credentials. been to the website and does not mention any MMA/BJJ credentials such as his instructor Lineage when it comes to BJJ,Karate or any other techniques having trained with him its more like going to Karate/kickboxing doing points kumite two nights a week. Also Mr Cave walks around with this smug and arrogant attitude I WAS In a class where he called other gyms "Mickey Mouse schools" what upset me was he attacked Gracie Jiu Jitsu as a school for one dimentional people and for the select elite because of their fees. The equipment Mr Cave approves are not safe and often people get injured. With regards to his Jiu Jitsu students I find it funny that you pumping them up because when I was training at the NMA as a white belt I knew more submission holds then any of their black belts and had a Guard that none of them could pass.I remember him showing the senior students in the class a omoplata which he claims only higher belt ranks (Green to black in this case could learn) could learn as it was a bjj Black belt move and guess what a week later was pulling off the omoplata better then the black belts. I remember tapping a black belt with a triangle when I asked how come he didnt escape he said they were not taught a triangle escape yet......Its not about the car he drives its about his attitude when asked respectfully about he's bjj credentials....he runs the schools like a business and not a place of learning. I Agree you sound like one of his puppet instructors that licks the floor he walks on and sucks up to him at every turn.
