    "Real Aikido"

I found a series of videos on something dubbed "Real Aikido". Watch the video. And no i am not endorsing aikido or anything of the sort. Just wanted to bring this to light lol.

    First, video forum. Find it!

Second, this is only somewhat different from other Aikido. I like the throws better because they use more than just the wrist as a contact point, the atemi was kinda cool and at least the pace was higher than other Aikido demos. But at the end of the day "real" Aikido is still just choreographed, compliant non-random "randori."

Step in the right direction I guess, but it's fixing the creaky front door while ignoring the gaping hole in the roof.

Apparently the hallmark of "real" aikido is taking a couple of kicks and reaping throws from Shotokan and judo.

Atleast it was fun to watch.

On a different note, Using the search terms "Aikido Sparing", I found this little gem.

The video description includes the words "full contact Aikido" and at first glance they seem to be showing some aliveness. It doesn't exactly look like Aikido, but it does claim to be Aikido.

These vids are demo only. A while back at the gym I was ins some real akido guys rented space form my teacher to run their own class. unfortunatly they didnt get far and stoped training so i never got to watch a class but they seemed to stress good training. they utilized heavy back training. They had boxing gloves buy i'm not sure how much actual sparrint they did. I did some research and found that the creator combined akido and jjj to create his own style "real akido". But that is all i know of them.

At around 1.50 - knees etc are introduced. So basically "real aikido" looks like very crappy low contact kickboxing with wristlocks introduced and no clinch game knowledge. I'm duly impressed.

I think the club in the first video is in Novi Sad, Serbia. I've been through there. Tough town. Lots of skinheads and gypsies. So I guess the aikido is tougher too.

That looked like about ten opportunities for O soto, and about ten again for the reverse hip counter.

    osoto Osoto OSOTO!

incidentally, I think I know now how to embed youtube videos without ruining everyone's day. Word.
