The Gracies didn't; but Madea and Kimura did. Hence you have them calling what they did "jujitsu" to avoid the problem with the Kodokan. It did not work for Kimura, he was kicked out for many years.

You also need to keep in mind this was written well over 10 years ago, when the internet was filled with things like "Any BJJ blue belt can beat any Judo Black Belt." Or that Judo was created to fool the people and keep them from learning the real techniques of Jujitsu. I still have the martial art mag that quote appeared in.

My posting of this history was radical for the time, and led to a great many personal and professional attacks against me. I used to moderate the Judo & Sambo forum on the Underground. In fact, they created it for me. I was driven from there by a squad of jerk off's and I never went back.

However, I do find it amusing that this history I researched and posted now is in several other BJJ books, with NO credit as a source.

    Got it now. Cool.

Yeah, I picked up on the article's age a little. That's why I liked that it addressed the proper Kosen Judo history.

That was the most coherent thing on the topic I have ever read in a very long career of reading crap on the net. Thanks you!

Did you (Tripp) know there was a troll back on ADCC who took this up as his personal soapbox? I bet there was a time when Phrost, Choke and the gang never wanted to hear the words "Kosen Judo" again in their lives.

You're not, by any chance, "JudoGuy" from Tim Mousel's old NHB board are you? You write like him.

There were many pretending to be me to cause great heat. I have always used my name, or a version of it, to avoid those problems.

Great article... it should be in the articles section. You supported some things that I understood to be true and cleared up a few fuzzy areas.

    .

Just to clearify. When Madea taught the Gracies he called it jujitsu so he could get around the prize fighting rule? Is that why in Kimura's book he calls Helio a 6th dan Judo player?

I'm guessing the Gracies knew it was Judo tho..
