    ATA taekwondo in MMA

This is a link to a video of an ATA Taekwondo instructor in a MMA event. I know ATA has a bad name here and I just wanted to give proof that generalizations are bad. I know of Many ATA fighters/instructors that could handle themselves in a fight, and teach their students to do the same.

YouTube - Sean Smith of Arkansas ATA-MMA cage fight

    Thanks,

    Jason

He fought in MMA because he specifically trained to fight in MMA, that has nothing to do with anything you would find in a typical ATA taekwondo class. I do like those very TKD kicks he threw in there though.

    Thanks,

Welcome to bullshido. This is not MABS material unless, you are saying ATA training is bullshido? We all know there are some good TKD MMA fighters out there. They are not the norm, as you are implying, they are the exception.

This will go to newbie town for now. I agree generalizations and blankest statements are bad. You are using this as an example to prove the worth of all ATA.

    Irony.

Well, I know a few ATA fighters/instructors that denounce the ATA. See how that works? Oh and they post in the KMA forum.

    Fine but your initial sentence............

ATA is one organization so, IMO, you are trying to correct the perception of this entire org.

We have ATA ranked instructors, former instructors, and fighters that would disagree that this proves anything about the ATA.

Nice punch! I'm not sure why he went for the take down, if he is truly just a tkd guy, that could have been a bad decision. However his stand up looked like tkd to me witch was cool to see.

    And I quote:
Little Rock, Arkansas' ATA multi-world champion Sean Smith in his debut MMA match in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Typical ATA bullshit. World Champion in what? That was a crappy match and an amateur match from what I could see. I tip my hat to Sean but this doesn't prove anything for ATA, yet.
