Just because I thought it was an interesting topic, I googled http://opus1journal.org/others/kille...paralysis.html. It's hardly definitive, but like I said, it's an interesting topic.

I've read through this whole post, and as someone who has a keen but unofficial interest in the human psyche I felt the desire to add my own three cents.

"The Psychological Hazard of Having Options" It is my understanding and belief that the hazard is not in having options, but in the fighters ability or inability to promptly make a decision with iron clad conviction and follow through. Agreeing with the previous statement that the hazard is in the hesitation, not so much in the failure to execute with sufficient skill or technique (though those are also factors in bottom line success or failure).

Whenever I roll with noobs I mount them pretty lightly so they can actually get an escape and not feel like its hopeless. As the noobs become more experienced I cut them less and less slack until I'm not taking it easy on them at all. So I understand why it might have seemed that your upas were better as a beginner.

lol. Good point, because your partner adds in new variables and so forth. Though I think for the sake of the basis of the post the hazard of options we're excluding the variables brought on by an opponent who's out to help and teach the other fighter. At least I was. >.<

Less psychology, more training. Just get better and you won't have to worry about this.
