Should I learn two disciplines or one?
I've just joined Xtreme Couture in Toronto, partly for the gym, and partly because they have beginner BJJ lessons that fit perfectly into my schedule.
The beginner MT classes also look good, but I have no idea if I should try to learn both at once, or focus on one and cross-train after I have a basic foundation.
So. Only do BJJ for now, or do both BJJ and MT?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Generally, the prevailing wisdom is to concentrate on learning one art at a time. However, if you are young and have a lot of free time, then try them both. You can always drop one to focus on the other if the need arises.
Welcome to Bullshido.
Personal thought is to try them both for a couple of weeks and see which one you ENJOY more. That's going to be more important than anything else when you start out. Do the one that is the most fun for you for a year or two, then if you want to start doing both you'll have the discipline to drag yourself to class even if you don't like it as much.
Both those points make a lot of sense. Thanks for the input!
Didn't we just get done talking about this in another thread?
Get as much in as you can every oportunity you can because you will never know when life will turn around and put a clamp on your ablility to train.
