An overhand is not a hook. Assuming your not a southpaw you can have a right hook (meaning that the the elbow is below 90 degrees). An overhand comes in above a 90 degree angle and takes longer to load up than a hook. Its generally a bad idea to start with a overhand because its easy to see coming.
