    how's the prep going?

The old man told us that 90% of his SAMBO competetion throws were uchimata/Harai-Goshi. Every other technique was a setup or follow-up for these two.

Kind of like a MLB pitcher who throws fastball/split for his whole career.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far. Lots of stuff to mull over.

Not so hot. Going home for Christmas probably wasn't the best choice in judo terms (it wasn't really a choice at all - I had a funeral to attend). Despite trying to keep my diet in check and getting to the gym a few times (no barbells = mostly sprint/core/balance work), I puffed up to 230, and the extra weight is not muscle.

    :psyduck:

Anyways, today's the first day back, so the plan is as follows:
-Carbohydrate and calorie restrictions are back on for at least this week, probably next week too
-Three judo sessions this week, three next week, two the week of the tournament(probably won't roll on Friday)
-I'll talk to my instructors today about tournament preparation and which throws to focus on
-I'm going to try to pull up my socks and do some post-activity conditioning, probably Tabata on a stationary cycle (I'd rather do it as a shuttle run, but that's probably more risky for my knee)

I also need to swing a white judogi somewhere (I practice in a blue BJJ gi that's probably not tournament-legal). I'll be trying to beg/borrow/steal one if possible - otherwise, it sounds like everyone likes Toraki.

I'm not sure on the etiquette or logistics yet, but if things work out I'll post video of my matches.

Taping is not only allowed but encouraged by just about everyone I've talked to I taped my matches at the PA Open, though watching the tape was painful. My second tournament was a smaller tournament and I forgot my camera so no footage there though I regret not having it for comparison.

well, TheRuss and I are sticklers for accuracy. I was incorrect, it was "Eddie Griffin" in an "Enzo" $1.5million eh?

also, this is a Mizuno Supreme, a beautiful judogi for only $240:
