The USMC is a gun club,
I ask this in all seriousness and with no ulterior motive whatsoever. I genuinely want to know. What does that mean? It sounds like one of those things that maybe Marines say to each other with a knowing look, and everybody understands it . . . . but I have no idea what is meant by that.

Everyone who matters in this thread has been telling you: NO.

If you're going to join the Marine Corps, then forget about serious martial arts training untill you get out.

    OP

You can find a lot of places to train, dependent upon the duty station you draw.

You will not be allowed to fight professionally. Your ass will belong to Uncle Sam and the ghost of Chesty Puller.

You will, however, have the chance to work with many people of diverse martial arts backgrounds if you so seek them out.

Worry now about passing basic (should be no problem, they now run in sneakers and hazing was done away with a long time ago). After that time, you can call yourself a Marine.

Next graduate from your MOS training.

Spend the 3-4 years getting in shape, training all you can and get the do or die attitude.

You can train your ass off, but will not be allowed to compete. The government now has an investment in you. Get through that and learn what you can.

Then go out and kick ass in MMA.

This is true. In the months leading up to a combat deployment, your battalion CO might even put a ban on participation in contact sports (including football), like mine did, because at that point he can't afford to lose anyone to injury. Marines are hard to replace and units rarely deploy at their full TO in the first place.
I'm not giving you my opinion, I'm telling you how it is.

Thanks a lot from all you guys, it's good to know some of this stuff beforehand so I don't get all disappointed and sad and crap. And as for all the luck being wished to me, also much appreciated, I look forward to be being a Marine and becoming part of a brotherhood of warriors like yourselves, corny as that sounds.

    Thread over?
