She shoots very often (ask Sam Browning!) and I would never "just present" her with a gun. She's too picky. She is gonna have to try a bunch of stuff.
Fortunately she practices with dedication, is already a competent shot with her Vaquero. I gotta borrow someone's tiny 9mm...And lo, Kano looked down upon the field and saw the multitudes. My wife carries a Walther PPK in .380 - I've had her try a bunch of other guns (compact 9MM's, .38 revolvers mostly) but she likes the PPK, it's comfortable and she's very good shot with it. I'm a huge believer of the idea that the gun you'll carry and the one you can hit what you aim at is the right one.
