In any event, Serge tested for asstistant instructor years ago.

There are no universally accepted ranks in sambo as we know. Many coaches teach without "certifications" or "ranks". But, what this certification says is that as far as NYCS and I am concerned, he is top notch and fully qualified in all the diverse areas of combat sambo...not just the sport stuff for example. He went the extra mile to go through the process and gain proficiency in the different ranges of sambo.

Not having this cert does not preclude anyone from teaching. And, at my club, the process of testing for this certificate (which takes about 7-8 years) is totally optional. For people who want to go the extra mile, and get that official documentation from me. The cert is like a seal of approval so to speak.
So how does this differ from a 'Master of Sports' cert?

Master of Sport in sambo is an international rating based on winning a national FIAS championship. MoS is not a cert, it is a athletic rating. It is not based on demonstrating a wide knowledge of sambo skill and technique. It is only based on athletic wins (not to minimize it because it is very hard to get).

BTW, you can get MoS in any sport in Russia...swimming, wrestling, gymnastics, etc. It is a sport rating system.

Awesome job Serge. I'm looking forward to getting some training time in with you when I head out that way.

Goddamned conditioning! Seems like you never have enough even with teh crossfitting!

Also, I didn't execute throws in standup jacket-work! I was up against Phoenix and Anthony, who are a couple of tanks.

should've put the Bolton shirt on sooner...Michael Bolton ftw!
Many things we do naturally become difficult only when we try to make them intellectual subjects. It is possible to know so much about a subject that you become totally ignorant.
