    Many officers in DC and Virginia have been switching to the AR15A, which I would feel more comfortable with. Shotguns, albeit good at close range, don't have the versatility of an AR15, or a similar rifle.

    Scatter guns may not have the versatility of a carbine, but they have a great intimidation factor. I have found that the sound made when chambering a shell/ racking the pump will help people who speak "english as a second language" better understand and comply with instructions.
