Ummm, a folder isn't a bad option, but I actually carry one day to day (primarily for work and utility, but whatever) and for self-defense purposes I would replace it in a second with a decent concealed handgun.

Protip: Wacked out violent people don't react to being cut the way you think they do (don't ask) and you really shouldn't be knifing Jimmy the random meathead if your life isn't in danger.
