Getting in shape for Air Force PFTs...

Really though, if your goal is not to be a total *****, you're in the wrong branch, for the most part. But I guess your family talked you out of joining the Marines, which you were dead set on joining like 20 minutes ago.

I'm gonna second this. I don't see the appeal of Security Forces, unless you want a good background for applying for AFOSI. It's not going to be like being a city cop, MP's, SF, and Navy MA's aren't doing much L&O any more.

I'll also throw out 2 other bad-ass Air Force career fields: SOWT and SERE.

If I could swim without sinking and had halfway decent eyesight, I would have tried out for PJs.

QFT. I started out running slower than 25 min. My speed increase was due to being chased daily by a gunnery sergeant.

LoL, I was thinking more along the lines of being chased by 7.62 rounds

Yeah, but what you're teaching will hopefully save lives and keep vital information out of the enemy's hands. If you're going be teaching someone, that's a pretty good thing to teach.

I can run faster scared than you can mad.

Start running for a half hour, several times a week. Everyday if you are serious. Don't worry about how far, just go run for a half hour and increase your distance/speed over time. Use a treadmill in the winter.

And use an ipod or mp3 player. I can't really run without music, it gets boring fast. Use some good fast paced songs, and use them to measure how long you've been running. Running to the end of a playlist is easier than running for so-many minutes.

Sorry brother, you're just going to be one of those guys who piss us off down in Tokari or Tongduchon. PJ's are some of the only guys in the AF that I don't consider to be effeminate. Those guys are actually pretty hard and the selection is a bitch from what I hear.

If you wanna be hard and be able to work independently in really shitty environments you might have to fall a long way to get to, go Army SF or CAG.

If you wanna be hard and be able to work independently in really shitty environments that you might have to swim to, go Navy DEVGRU.

If you wanna be hard while being told that you are better than any other service yet still get to do 6-8 month combat rotations, go Marines...just don't be shocked when an Army Division Recon Troop has to come snatch your ass out of Ahdimiyah because you really pissed off the locals.

If you wanna be hard, make lots of money but possibly end up in an Iraqi prison, go BlackWater. :-)

Terrified of heights, and can't swim well. PJs are out :p.

If I go the the route i'm going, i can come out and get a cushy job with a power company, making close to 6 figures a year, with benefits and lavish vacation time.

Funny thing is, i'm actually really considering going to SERE school.
