Praying for serious injury, a lot of people (including myself when I was younger) tried it and it doesn't actually work at all.

Thanks I appreciate the quick response and saving of some joints for something that will never help.

No prob, just hoping no one even gets into remote trouble because of those dreaded ankle/wrist weights. <_<

I was old enough to remember running in them for football. An earlier post mentioned resistant bands, do you think that could be helpful as long as I have someone there to help check my technique?

Yeah, they'd probably be much better than ankle/wrist weights at any rate, as long as you make sure you check up on your technique/have someone else to do it for you. No one refuted that one poster's advice for me earlier on, and I've had some success through doing it. Just start small and slowly work your way up.

Resistance bands are a good strength exercise, but I would never ever suggest someone train with them who was having problems with their speed. The reason why people are slow is because they try and punch and kick with their arm and leg muscles, effectively having to fight their own muscles to try and throw a punch or kick. The techniques come from the shoulder/hip and the legs and arms stay relaxed until impact. Resistance bands could reinforce bad habits of trying to push your techniques out with your muscles, totally screwing over your attempts at getting faster.

So it's more mental and going through proper technique (muscle memory)? Is there anything that can help when I can not get someone to help watch what I am doing?

Just stay focused on relaxing your muscles when you throw a punch. If you feel tension in your arm at all at any point during the punch except for the point of impact, you're not relaxing. Same goes for kicking.
