    Comtech

Has anyone trained at "Comtech" in Oregon. There is a lot of info on the web about James Keating and his knife training. I was just wondering if anyone had been there recently.

    Thanks.

Haven't been there but have corresponded quite a bit with Jim. Have you tried contacting him directly about training? From what I understand he's mainly doing private training with the occasional seminar.

He's supposed to be very good at what he does. I haven't heard much about how well he teaches.

From all accounts he's a hell of a teacher. He's got some sort of apprenticeship program going on now. There's more on that at www.jamesakeating.com. The e-zine is good for a giggle sometimes; he has links to a shitload of stuff, you just have to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Thanks for the info. I saw his website and checked out some of the stuff. You never know from just the info online.

I am up in in NorCal and we have some get togethers doing some knife training and I just wanted to supplement that a bit.

If you're in NorCal it shouldn't be much of a drive. IIRC Jim lives out in Milton-Freewater, out in the boonies near there. He's really personable to talk to on the phone, and responds pretty quickly to emails.

This probably isn't going to be too helpful, but it's how I see it...

I knew Jim when he we a Kenpo teacher in Kennewick Washington. I liked Jim the Kenpo teacher. He worked hard, worked his students hard and had a sense of humor about himself.

Master at Arms James Keating is a completely different cuppa chilled rat phlegm. MAAJAK is self-important, takes offense easily, spouts a lot of BS and takes himself way too seriously.

If you happen to meet Jim Keating he's worth spending some time with. He knows some good stuff and can teach it. The Master at Arms with his "This blade is for destroying Men and their Knives" schtick not so much. Which one you meet is kind of luck of the draw.

Funny. Jim the Kenpo teacher seems to always be the one I got on the phone/email. ****, half the time I think I address him as "Uncle Jim".

Then you're very fortunate or he has reached a better balance than he did some years back. Either way I'm happy to hear it.

Most of my commo with him has been within the last couple years. Maybe he's mellowed.
