Yes, crimes committed by military personell are covered under UCMJ even after enlistment is up, or atleast that is what I was told.

Though UCMJ is the guideline they will follow to dole out the punishment for the crime, ultimately the civilian side of the federal government will actually do the deed and therefore decide whether it is life or death penalty.

To end the day, they are sent back into solitary confinement after watching clips of their own relatives and friends talking about how horrible their crime was. Five times a day a volunteer from a long, long list will be allowed to punch them in the mouth. Once to wake them up, once before each meal, and once just after they've fallen asleep. Three days a year, once on the couple's anniversary, once on the anniversary of the crime, and once on the their own birthday, they will be waterboarded instead of the daily video review, and shot with a shotgun beanbag or rock salt before being placed back into solitary confinement. They will receive the best medical care available to ensure they live long, healthy lives.

    Edited for massive clarity issues.
I think it's funny how as soon as it's decided that someone "deserves it", people start fantasizing about infinitely more terrible and despicable tortures than the accused would have ever even dreamt of committing. As soon as you can find a way to demonize your victim to the extent that you don't feel guilt at the thought of killing them, you're free to fulfill whatever violent wet dreams you may have under the pretense of justice.

In fact, you're so sick and deranged, I'd like to see you hung from the ceiling by your toes with no less than 40 pounds roped to your balls and

Not only do I think they've done a perfectly good job of demonizing themselves, I'm well against the death penalty for anyone, ever.

It's funny, no one's suffered or died as a result of my sickness or derangement.

I'm sure many murderers have thought this of their victims.

I'm not accusing you of being a murderer. I'm accusing you of being sick, deranged, and hypocritical.

"Inspired ones they resemble: but it is not the heart that inspireth them-- but vengeance. And when they become subtle and cold, it is not spirit, but envy, that maketh them so.

Their jealousy leadeth them also into thinkers' paths; and this is the sign of their jealousy--they always go too far: so that their fatigue hath at last to go to sleep on the snow.

In all their lamentations soundeth vengeance, in all their eulogies is maleficence; and being judge seemeth to them bliss...

But thus do I counsel you, my friends: distrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful!"

This should be sprinkled with "motherfuckers" and read out loud by an angry Samuel Jackson.
