I find too much hazard to be found in bodybuilding style of bench press for shoulder injury, and wholly support a back arch, shoulders pulled together, and minimized range of motion.

It's foolish to think that the powerlifting style won't get you pecs and shoulders. Just look at powerlifters with ridiculous shoulders, haha.

I'm no trainer, just an enthusiast. But I figure that in a site about martial arts, people are concerned with performance, not appearance, in regards to a "gym people suck" thread.

Edit: Also, the arch is how the back is naturally formed, and typically, all lifting is done with an arch.

Well, there's arch, and then there's arch... I saw a girl doing bench once, and her arch was taller than she was thick. Can't imagine that being healthy... the arch, I mean.

I've heard of a lot of women being able to get ridiculous arches. Maybe a hip construction idea.

I guess generally when I see people commenting about an arch, they're opposed to the whole idea of an arch, not just the height.

it was a general day because I was out for a week, so I did all I could before dying from exhastion. bench. curls. tricep extensions. lat pulldowns. upright rows. shrugs. leg extension. leg curls. calf raises. run around the indoor track (1/2 mile). pick up game of racketball/squash (sp?). I'm not "that guy" in the gym. I don't like gyms. I get in. get out. done. I'd rather play pick up games.

    This month fucking sucks.
I don't mind people who can bench 400+. I think that's incredible, especially since my personal best is under 200. It's the hanging around and not letting anyone else use the equipment because you're on the phone and taking up space on the equipment that annoys me. It's like those guys can't talk on the phone and clean off/ leave the equipment so other people can use them.

What part of everyone do you not understand? Read the threads associated with Gym People Suck Month and tell me you've never once done any of the things that people are bitching about.

    No squats?

And did anyone in your group ask him if you could use his bench? Otherwise, he had no reason to move, as no one else was requesting his equipment.

I did the squats. I just forgot to list them. sorry. We didn't ask him to move, but some other guys did and he just gave them the "I'm on the phone" gesture (the one where your index finger is pointed up in the air as you tuck the phone between your head and shoulder as you avoid eye contact with the would be communicators). That happened on my second set of curls. That guy was just a dick.

Okay. I probably have done some of the stuff on this forum. It's just like getting a bunch of random people together in an enclosed area. Douchebaggery on all parties is pretty much the norm.
