    Joint pain

    I started BJJ about 3 months ago, and latley I have been waking up in the middle of the night with my elbow hurting ( or other joints), not pain as a injury just kind of an discomfort. this usally happens only after a training night ( training 3x week ). Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Besides not getting caught in arm bars. I started taking glucosamine & chondroitin, but are there any excercise you guys know of that will help.

    i've gotten in the habit of taking ibuprofen just before class on a regular basis. seems to help reduce the wear and tear.

    Thanks, I'll give it a shot before saturdays class. Just didn't want a slight discomfort to turn into a tendonitis.

    I've had a lot of trouble with my joints in the past, particularly the elbows. If you're lifting before class, you might want to give that a rest for a while. Also, take fish oil if you don't already.

    Yeah I started the fish oil with the glucosamine & chondroitin. Is there any brand of fish oil that doesnt repeat itself? It's like I eat a boat of sushi when I take it.

    There are reduced stink versions, just check your pharmacy shelf.

    And make sure you are rehydrating after class. It makes more difference for me than anything else.

    I had that problem. Then I found a miracle cure.

    Tap faster.

    Seriously.

    If you are in an arm bar and its just training, don't fight it or wait until it hurts. If your thumbs facing the sky and the hips are underneath, just tap. Keylock, the figure four gets made, give it one big up to get out, then tap out.

    Once I stopped trying to fight through a tight submission, strated to focus on not getting in the bad position to begin with, and tap before my arm was about to snap, my joints miraculously started to be pain free.

    I don't know if that's your problem, but its something you might want to think about if you are always waiting until the last second to tap.
