I never beat my instructor not because I felt I could not beat him, but out of respect. And by the way, most instructors, especially in Karate, will never spar against students so as not to lose their umbrella of invincibilty...

I spar my instructors in BJJ and MT all the time. So far this has not, sadly, made them seem any less invincible.

You can YouTube some of the "Sikaran" vids. I find it next to impossible to believe it's not heavily Karate or Taegwondo influenced. Acrobatic kicks, "kata", etc. Yes, there's an obvious FMA piece to it, some stick work, etc, but you can't tell me that the Sikaran style isn't a Filipino karate derivative.

I think sikaran is both its own style and a general term for a class of techniques, like pananjakman.
