Paul Vunak says he can't touch Dan Inosanto

I just don't understand this ****. Seems like everybody who has ever ever did a seminar with Dan Inosanto all the way up to his full instructors in any art he teaches claim he is friggin' untouchable. Let's assume for a moment that this in fact true, what does that tell us? Does Dan Inosanto's ass age like wine? Does everyone else, including guys like paul vunak, ron balicki and rick tucci suck that hard? Is this whole thing a marketing plot? Enlighten me I have a lot of respect for the guy, but I just can't believe all this nuthugging

Isn't Paul Vunak that guy who has advertisements in the magazines that go something like this? :

"You may not know who Paul Vunak is, but all of the 'insiders' sure do. He teaches navy seals, and he can teach you how to be DEADLY DEADLY DEADLY! .......... All you have to do is learn eight moves."

If so, I'd be inclined to take whatever he says with a grain of salt.

Paul Vunak is a RBSD and JKD instructor, and for the most part is well respected. He also has a number of IMO pragmatic videos on the topic of knife fighting.

As for Dan Inosanto, I heard he once round house kicked Chuck Norris, and Chuck Norris actually flinched.

Paul Vunak is Dan Inosanto's student. Dan is his guro.

Of course he's going to say that. My own teacher could be in a wheel chair on a ventilator & he'd still kick my ass with one word.

Seriously, the pseudoskepticism of some of you idiots makes me wonder what they put in the water these days.

Paul's good, Dan's better. I crossed hands with him once at a seminar; I was shift-working at the time and sleep deprived, so dared to "spar" a bit during a demo. He wrapped me up and took me down without looking at me and while continuing to talk to the rest of the class. Humbled, was I.

I can't touch my teacher,
and he can't touch his. . .
that makes me think we can't get enough experience these days
to improve our art directly, and only theoretically do we grow.

My teacher fought in the streets daily just to get to his Chinatown class.
His teacher lived with the master, and inherited a lot of direct personal
training from the master that never went further.

Are we watering-down our arts, just because we do not fight/battle/war?
Live sparring helps, but does not replace the crucible of fighting an opponent
in a real situation.

there's other elements at play here too. Lots of people have trouble beating them teachers.

Plus, even if the teacher and the student have the exact same level of knowledge, the teacher will always have more experience, because they started sooner.

This is true, although earlier in my life I always felt
like I could get to the teacher's level sooner or later.
I did get pretty close, and in two cases, I could spar
with my teachers, and actually trade with them.

Not this teacher.
The more I learn, the further I have to go.

Yet, I am about as far from my teacher as most of the
students in his advanced class are from me. And, some
of them started before me, and a few at the same time
as I did.

My students are what helps me to grow further, but, I
still cannot trade hands on the same level as my teacher.

Dan Inosanto... My Fellow Filipino...

Honestly, these guys piss me off, we barely have enough Eskrima instructors here in the Philippines, and he decides to ditch the country.

This is why I went for JUDO and BJJ. I felt so betrayed.
