Angry White Pajamas

Alright I've got a book here I would like an opinion on: Angry White Pyjama's

The book is basically about an English guy and his roomates, living in Japan, who decide to stop being lazy and pick up a physical activity, so they join an Aikido Dojo. Well, the main guy enrolls in the Japanese Riot Police Course. The course is a year long, 5 days a week all day, and is basically just hardcore Aikido training.

So, the issue is: If Aikido is so ineffective in real fighting, why are the Japanese riot police being trained extensively in this art.

Note: I'm not condoning the use of the afore mentioned "Aikido", just asking for some speculation.

Wow, my bad on the spelling. Um, I've already wrote an introductory post, so where would be the appropriate place to put this post, and how do I get it there?

This goes in YMAS and the answer to your question is because police are technique whores. They'll train anything.

Maybe...but that's alot of traing for some **** technique, that they'll probably try to use when there is a riot.

I'm pretty sure in a riot they're not going to forgo the sheild and baton and start grabbing people's wrists. If they're anything like American riot police, they'r just going to start smashing people in the face.

Let me tell you something about Asians. We've come up with so much xenophobic bullshit to **** with the western hemisphere, ie aikido, chinese fortune cookies, Yao Ming, etc., that it's backfired on us because now there are Asians who actually believe that **** actually works.
