    Because you are most likely not stretching out properly, trying to do kicks you aren't physically skilled enough to perform and lack foundational strength.

    But I may be wrong.

    Why can't you ask your instructor? Isn't that what s/he's there for?

    Hang on, you hurt your knee? Man I hope you're not pivoting on your standing foot when throwing these kicks. If you don't pivot correctly, you'll keep twisting that knee and bad things can / will happen.

    Also +1 to timing. Let us know how it goes man.

    Find a good kicker and watch it in slow motion. Sounds simple, but helped me a lot.
