Well, jeez, it's only the first belt above white; and it usually takes at least a year or two to get. What's the big deal? You think a blue belt should mean you're unbeatably awesome?

thats what i understood.

a blue belt can never lose to a white belt. ( a real new person not someone who already has some purple belt at another form of bjj)
at my school it takes at average 4 years while 3 to 4 times a week.
personally im not that interested myself but im interested to know if there are any differences between one's federation blue belt level and another.

thats why i ask fresh blue belts how long it took them and how many times a week on average they trained.

again: im not implying anything, but im curious.
so far i know at several schools they sort of 'award'it because its obvious to the teacher the person is on that level.
the blue belts i know had to do testings with people like Henri Akins and Vaghi.
im curious to know if, why, and how the differences are in bjj.

Four fucking years? Mine took me 18 months or so, that's actually a little above average around here.

And I've been tapped by white belts. It happens, saying it must be impossible just encourages people to play overly defensive games. Hell, I've tapped brown and purple belts on occasion, do they not deserve their belts either?

It's not my place to say who or who not deserves belts.
I was pretty clear on that im just curious and not implying, im asking.
The thing about you're not supposed to lose to white belts if you're blue is a thing ive been taught.
for the record: im a white belt myself.
So especially that last phrase in your post: dont go in that direction with me because thats not what i mean or am implying.

I disagree with this statement. I'm what I guess you would call a PermaWhite belt. I train inconsistently and have done so for many years. I either get really close to Blue and move to a new city or I get close and just stop going (no time to train, hectic work schedule, boredom, take your pick)

I've tapped blue belts, purple belts and 1 brown belt. What you have to consider is how often it happens. Usually if I catch a purple belt or brown belt in a submission it's because they underestimated what I could do, and I never catch them a second time, same is true for most blue belts.

The way I've always viewed it is if a white belt is tapping blue belts or holding his own against experienced blue belts, consistently, then it's probably time to advance him to blue belt as well. Catching a blue belt or any other higher belt in a submission on a few rare occassions is not enough to advance him.

I started training in July of last year. At first I trained twice a week, after a couple months I started training with a gi and bumped up to 3 times a week. Since January I've been training 4-5 times/week, barring of course time off for injuries and t3h dreaded ringworm.
