Philosophically, giving a name to a concept should by its name alone evoke a sense of the concept even if youve never seen it. And we name things to simplify.
A book worm, for example associates two different ideas to create one.
Butterfly guard for example might invoke the image of a butterfly pose. ( How a butterfly pose got its name, different ballgame). A guard invokes a defense.
De La riva guard. Its a bad name.
Trucker position. Its a bad name.
But hey, bjj practitionners are not poets, so cant blame them, can we?
Perhaps why the undue criticism towards the naming convention. Because it simply doesnt follow normal naming convention of things, but is more based on ego naming id call it. So for a stranger of the art, its just bullshit because they cant relate the name to anything.
