I'm easily recognizable in these videos as the balding guy with a black rashguard & white gi pants. The exception is the 1 gi video where I'm simply the balding guy.

I've now competed in the Oregon Open twice. Last year was my first competition & this was my only win of the day:

This year I did a little better. Only 1 win in Gi. I don't think I'd really woken up yet.

But 3 wins in the afternoon no-gi division. I lost 1 match on points (he got the takedown & then stalled for 4 minutes, doing a good job defending my submission & sweep attempts but not mounting much offense). It was exhausting but incredibly boring to watch. That guy ended up winning the division.

Nice videos but I am not sure about this sweep you do "a lot". The one where you have them in close guard, base far out with one hand and then just turn over it. It looks like you give the other arm/back away easily. But I will try this one in training tomorrow and see how it works.
Also work on your take down(defense), you never came out as the "winner" in those. What I liked though is how you recover from the take down and either go straight to guard or how you move from half guard to guard, nice.

The funny thing (& by funny I mean frustrating) is I made grand plans to work on my clinch game in order to prepare for this compitition, then I hurt my back. As a result I've been doing physical therapy instead of jiu-jitsu most nights of the week & haven't really worked clinch or closed guard in the last 3 months or so.

I agree that my takedown defense sucked. So did my lack of takedown offense in most matches.

Nice showing SBG-ape, one of the guys from my gym went and got 2nd in his division (Ty H.). I was otherwise occupied as the wife was in Boston (me being superdad). Looks like a great time though, I'll have to see about going next time.

Nice! I was there competing as well, 202-215.0 intermediates.
Who was your ref there? I kept wondering that all day, that guy looks crazy familiar.
My matches are linked in the competition link off my name I think now. (Update, I guess those only show up on regular posts, not vid comments).
