Eh, vaguely. Far more like two Fighters, archetypical Dwarf and Elf. One will burn the other in one phase or another, but what phase you wind up in isn't always up to you. Best to meet in the middle: Humans.

Like everyone said, the biggest emphasis is trying to get a pin or a sub straight off a throw. The guard position doesn't even have a name, and stalling is encouraged since you only have about ten seconds to pass, and trying to pass can leave you open for sweeps and subs. Sangaku jime isn't really taught that often because it's easy enough to stall in if not locked in correctly, the only subs I've ever seen consistently taught from bottom guard are juji gatame, ude gatame and a cross collar choke since they rely on your opponent doing something wrong and very quickly getting the sub on instead of really having to work for it.
Also, subs are really underemphasised in some clubs because a lot of the players will be around 14-15 years old, and cannot use subs at that point.

I'd say its like the difference between two economics students where one focuses on macro-economics and the other on micro-economics. There is crossover knowledge and its in the same general area of study, but a macro-economist won't know the indepth parts of certain micro-theories without cross-studying.

It counts as a pin though if you get them sort of upside down (showing off my brilliant grasp of judo terminology :listen: )

Do you mean the weird version where you have them rolled over and you are sitting on them as you apply the strangle?

Also, I'd say the mega nerdy Mage/Sorcerer comparison lines up pretty nicely, with the mage representing judo with a much wider array of tricks, and the sorcerer having less actual skills (eg very little gripfighting, rudimentary takedowns) but being very good at using the skills he does have.

You need an intelligence and charisma score of at LEAST 15 to be able to do that.

No, it's more like a Shadow priest and a warlock in terms of dps :P

One is really meant to heal but knows how to dps and the other is a pure dps class =D

Sort of like in this at 1:38 YouTube - Sankaku Jime except with him upside down with you on your hands. Very nice for defeating teh turtle that gets so much on the BJJers tits.

That's a yoko sankaku jime (sp?)

I'm pretty sure it's not a pin, because when we practice it, we go first for a choke, then for an arm lock as backup, and a switch to a north-south pin if all else fails.
