For information about the glycemic index of different types of rice, see this study. I've already commented on it at some length here and here, but for the purposes of this thread, here's the short version:

Most types of rice will drive up your blood sugar fairly quickly. If you aren't actively trying to do this, you're probably better off eating another type of grain that's digested more slowly.
    thanks.

Basmati has a medium GI rating, so is actually better than other rices, shown in TheRuss's link. Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basmati...index_.28GI.29

It's true that basmati is the best for GI. However, it's worth noting that pasta is better than all rice in this respect.

If only your dietary standards would apply to everything....
why not apply your martial standards to your diet? I would be willing to bet the intellectually honest individual would enjoy greater health in a relatively short period of time.

Bah guess i'll have to make the switch to brown rice :(, knew there was a reason i enjoy white rice so much. Five weeks into my no-exercise injury time and i've already put on 5 pounds.

No reason? Simple: You can't get long grain brown rice served to you in a good sashimi donburi with shumai, edemamae, and miso on the side. :love4:

Lean bulk... Why? You will struggle to put on any muscular bodyweight at all if you are not allowing yourself to gain any fat.

It might be a slow struggle, but it isn't impossible. I clearly traded fat for muscle once upon a time. My weight didn't change, but my waistline shrunk dramatically. Lots of protein and moderate weight training. Veggies, fruits. I only ate grains, starches, sugars and refined foods as occasional treats. It gets to be a habit until your wife starts tempting you with her old country home cooking. And like Adam before me...
