Holding them vertical hurts my elbows, holding them at angle doesn't. So I'm a fan of it. I don't think all that many people drift upward because of it.

Hehe i'd probably end up swinging my hand back and breaking it on the wall if i did that drill. I take it you teach your students to not do the hand swing?

+rep for putting the video up, don't feel afraid to put some up more often!

We don't teach them NOT to swing, but we teach them to use a shortened swing.

I've got tons of video footage, but I don't like to put a lot of it up because I have a tendency to talk way too much rather than simply demonstrate a drill.... That's one of the reasons I have so many of my training sessions video taped is to try to encourage me to break the habit.

I guess this isn't really a problem for f4n4n and his TKD class (ooooohh!)
This is why I (in the original thread) opted for a certain shield, which is different to the Thai pads. But hey make your jokes about TKD and then realize that we do the exact same drill (as shown in the video), only we use a vertical pad for people to turn their hips more and generate more power. (Yes also we lift the knee first and not the complete leg and we don't drop our hand to the side when kicking like you see khun kao do it but in general it is the same fucking thing)

PS: How are you holding the pads? How is your stance, how close do you hold them to the body etc.?
Sometimes you lose and sometimes the other guy wins.

At this point I don't owe anybody an explenation.

    Schools I trained at:
Lotus Club Cetepe Liberdade Sao Paulo
    Renzo Gracie NYC
    New York Combat Sambo

This is why people on the internet hate TKD. Go to a Muay Thai gym and train then you will know why this statement is total bullshit. In case you are wondering why everyone else already knows we trained both. TKD isn't some mysterious art from the Korean mountains.

^^ I read this and this guy's above post and tried it out, however I can't afford gym fees so I haven't been able to kick anything of substance.

However, if you watch this video of a thai boxer at Sityodtong camp:

YouTube - Training at Sityodtong Thailand

You'll see that he's doing exactly what Khun Kao's talking about and hitting with a ton of power.
