this thread is a perfect example of why i love this site.
"Face punches are an essential character building part of a martial art. You don't truly love your children unless you allow them to get punched in the face." - chi-conspiricy
"When I was a little boy, I had a sailor suit, but it didn't mean I was in the Navy." - Mtripp on the subject of a 5 year old karate black belt
"Without actual qualifications to be a Zen teacher, your instructor is just another roundeye raping Asian culture for a buck." - Errant108
"Seriously, who gives a **** what you or Errant think? You're Asian males, everyone just ignores you, unless you're in a krotty movie." - new2bjj -

Holding them vertical hurts my elbows, holding them at angle doesn't. So I'm a fan of it. I don't think all that many people drift upward because of it.
I'm picturing you drooling onto the keyboard as you type, one eye rotating independent of the other as your hands mash the keys. - Sophist -

We don't teach them NOT to swing, but we teach them to use a shortened swing.
I've got tons of video footage, but I don't like to put a lot of it up because I have a tendency to talk way too much rather than simply demonstrate a drill.... That's one of the reasons I have so many of my training sessions video taped is to try to encourage me to break the habit. -

This is why I (in the original thread) opted for a certain shield, which is different to the Thai pads. But hey make your jokes about TKD and then realize that we do the exact same drill (as shown in the video), only we use a vertical pad for people to turn their hips more and generate more power. (Yes also we lift the knee first and not the complete leg and we don't drop our hand to the side when kicking like you see khun kao do it but in general it is the same fucking thing)

^^ I read this and this guy's above post and tried it out, however I can't afford gym fees so I haven't been able to kick anything of substance.
