Biting your way out of an armbar

I was thinking about a youtube comments section where people were laying praise on Bruce Lee for showing biting your way out of an armbar as a magic button to defeat BJJ'ers. Now, I was at judo and from a few conversations and memories of one tournament, I realised that people try to bite out of armbars at the time, since it's a weird loophole where the "no pushing against the face" is violated during juji gatami, but since this prevents the referee seeing what the person getting armbarred's mouth is doing people in competitions try to give the backs of peoples legs a little nip to stop them from sinking it in properly.

British judo is known for being fairly scrappy, but it's similar in other things too, like kicking the side of the neck as well as the head in full contact kickboxing, or Chuck Lidells habit of near eyegouging with his punches. The standard response to anyone claiming an alive martial art is **** because it doesn't deal with throat strikes, eyegouges and biting is that they aren't very important techniques, but wouldn't a more accurate answer be that we actually do?

Its awfully hard to clamp down and bite, when your mouth is opening to scream from your newly broken arm...

PROOF that I'm not a completely useless poster:

Biting doesn't break the grip or pressure on your joint. The pain might make someone go "Oh ****" and let go or it might make the person go "Oh ****" and crank as hard and fast as possible.

The big problem with RBSD biting eye gouging people is that they want biting to be an alternative to learning proper defense

Well, in judo it's done when the leg is over your face but you're still holding onto your arms, and he's trying to break your grip. It's more done to piss them off and fustrate them than as a get out technique.

Let's remember that jujigatame is, first and foremost, a hold. The submission is done AFTER the hold is secured. During that hold, I can attack in many ways, OR move to some other hold or attack.

In old JJ it was supposedly used to break the arm, kick the face, and kick the side of the head with intent to break the neck. These are all fine counters to the much-touted bite. Source = Darrell Max Craig's Jujutsu Before 1882.

This. If someone bit the back of my leg while I was performing an armbar, I can't say for sure whether I'd instinctively arch up away from it (bad news for them) or try to kick their teeth out (also bad news for them).

How about we talk about flying armbars?

How do you defend against that?
