    Sumbag Patid

I recently started taking Eskrima with a Doce Pares school near me and after the Eskrima class, they have a kickboxing class. I'm guessing it's sumbag-patid, as that's the "punch and kick" part of the multi-style system.

I'm taking the class as it's included in the fees for the Eskrima class, but can anyone tell me anything good or bad about its effectiveness as a striking system? My only real point of reference is Muay Thai, and it's significantly different from what I've seen. The training is alive and the instructor hits HARD. Most of the kicks seem to be chambered, but knees and punches and hand blocking seem to come straight from Muay Thai.

I've never heard of it, which isn't shocking if it's a small sub-set of a more broad FMA system.

From what you describe, it does go along with the FMA empty-hand that I've learned. Dirty boxing with elbows for the topside, quick retracted low-line kicks and stomps for the lower side. (Less chance of getting stabbed in the leg by a knife when you retract). With that being said, my kicks are about 20% Sikaran, 80% Muay Thai. The low-line stomps are fine, as are the footsweeps, and short knees. But I'm just not a big fan of snapping kicks. If I were to kick someone, I'd rather commit and knock the tar out of them.

Odd. most of the FMA kicking i've seen is very silat-y, and usually you step down with the kick, and get some sort of upper-body control to execute a takedown.

Here's the video that popped up when I searched for sumbag patid, it's very close in style, but not all-inclusive of the techniques I've been shown.
