    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Emil Martirossian - JKD Joker?

This was carried over from YMAS when it seemed there need to be some serous claims answered to.

Emil claims to be teaching JKD, as certified by Clive McKenzie. The claim is on his resume here:

    http://www.emilmartialarts.co.uk/resume.htm

Certified by Clive Mckenzie esq in JKD - at Instructor Level (one of Guru Dan Inosanto early students from the 1970's),
Tae Kwon Do (Black Belt - 5th Degree),
ITF Tae Kwon Do (Black Belt - 1st Degree),
Kung Fu, 5 Animal Style, Choy Li Fut, Jiu-Jitsu,
Western boxing, Thai-boxing, Filipino knife defence,
Chinese Kick boxing plus Unarmed Combat.
I looked at "Guro" (ie, not "Guru") Inosanto's website, and did not see a Clive McKenzie listed:

    USA
    http://inosanto.com/?page_id=97

    Worldwide
    http://inosanto.com/?page_id=76

Not to end there, I searched on google for "Dan Inosanto" "Clive Mckenzie":
    http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Da...al&hs=l23&sa=2

I found that nearly every search result pointed towards this Emil character, so I took his first name out of the search "Dan Inosanto" "Clive Mckenzie" -emil:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...il&btnG=Search

You will then see that without a web post by Emil, Clive McKenzie does not ever appear on the same page as Dan Inosanto except for one post on MAP, by a user who was banned.

I would also point out that his sparring video does not show black belt proficiency in kicking as one would expect from a guy who holds both a 1st Dan and a 5th Dan in Tae Kwon Do:

    http://uk.YouTube - JKD Sparring Session

As of now I intend to contact the folks at Inosanto Academy for clarification. How Emil can explain his otherwise lack of martial skill is another question in it's entirety. He does not mention which governing organization granted his 5th Dan in Tae Kwon Do, however we do know his 1st Dan is claimed to be issued by the ITF.

Any other supporting information would be greatly appreciated.

There is a pretty good consensus on his lack of qualifications over at MAP. He also refuses to answer questions about his qualifications.

Fabulous, they couldn't even keep him from sucking in his own trailer.

Inosanto Academy has been contacted, I'll keep you posted on those updates.

Selflessly promote the benefits of martial arts practice? This guy is completely a self-promoter!

Thanks honesty from across the pond. Is there any way you have access to some of these records for verification, especially the British awards?

I've emailed combat mag and asked if they would verify the hall of fame claims. Will wait and see if they respond.

Even if that is accurate, it hardly proves anything other than that he managed to get himself into a fairly low quality martial arts rag. I doubt Combat magazine would ever bother to check the guy's lineage or even see how he trains/fights. Those kind of awards tend to be based on who has the biggest dojos, who advertises in the mag, who is the biggest self-promoter, and a bunch of other arbitrary criteria.

Quick gogle search comes up with this youtube video for Clive Mckenzie JKD. If you were an early student of Dan Inosanto, somewhere in a 4 minute photo montage of your MA greatness, wouldn't you have a picture of Guro Dan and yourself? Oh yeah, and at 3:34 the magazine article is on Joet Kune Do with Guro Dan. And oddly enough pictures of Dan Inosanto with other people, but not Clive Mckenzie. Looking at his other clips gives me the feeling of Kung fu not JKD.
