That cant be. The school must be open. Remember that it is inside a catholic school and you need to enter the gate and go up to the second floor. There is no signage at all that there is the gracie school.

    HIP for Helio.

I have no idea, but Copacabana and Ipenema are the two most expensive places in Rio. They're for tourists, because they're safe, but you pay a big preimium for that saftey. I've been told not to stay anywhere in Rio other than Copacabana and Ipenema. I live in Sao Paulo and it's by no means cheap. I found it impossible to find an apartment with a lease period for less than 2 years, so unless you're looking to stay there for a really long time, I don't think you'll find an apartment. I'm currently living in a hostel, which is 800R/month. Check coachsurfing.com.

Copa can be a bit sketchy at night. Ipanema is much better. ( Unless you like getting accosted by drug dealers and women of ill repute that is. :) )

I prefer Barra. Safest part of Rio as far as I know, great gyms and less expensive if you want something close to the beach.
Expect to pay 2-3000 reais a month for a crappy apartment in Ipanema or Copa and the same for an ok apartment in Barra.

I'm paying $800/month for a good hostel in one of the nicest parts of Sao Paulo.
