    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Gracie Humaitá

I just found out that I may be heading down to Rio in January for work, so I'm thinking of taking advantage of the time down there and stopping in at the Gracie Humaita for training. I just wanted to ask first though what protocol I should follow before heading out there.

Also just out of curiosity are private lessons available from Royler? On the off chance that I'm flush when I go, I wouldn't mind splurging.

You might want to shoot them an e-mail or give them a call and let them know what you're interested in doing as well as your background in BJJ. I'm sure Gracie Humaita and Gracie Barra get a lot of looky-loos and tourists dropping in. That probably gets old fast, but if you're serious about training there, I'd bet they're more than happy to help.

You should show up, walk in and say: "hey assholes, I'm here for the 'Gracie Challenge', come and get it!"

    Rogue,

    Just call them up:

    Academia Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
Rua Humaita 52, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
    (021) 2266-6094

I know Royler does offer a certain number of private lessons when he's up here for seminars. I'm not sure what his schedule is when he's on his usual side of the equator.

He mentioned that he allows both white and blue gis at his academy last time I saw him. I don't think he allows black or red or anything crazy. If you aren't affiliated, I'm not sure what his policies are, but I know people without the round, yellow Gracie triangle patches on their gi have had to do push-ups in the past. The Fuji Fighterzone gi comes with the patches already sewn on. You can order one here https://www.hatashitasports.com/prod...&CategoryID=34

For some reason I recall one of our Bullies being down in Brazil, maybe Rio, PM "WingChun Lawyer", he may have some good advice for you about this.

Presumably if you train bjj you've got some connection with a brazillian. When guys I train with decide to go to mecca they usually call our brazillian for intros and advice.

My instructor is a John Will student, but if I'm not mistaken Sam (my instructor) has trained with Royler Gracie.

    Then talk to them.
Presumably your instructor can talk to both Will and Royler, at least to some limited extent, and help you out a bit.
