TKD question

I didn't see this thread elsewhere on the forum, but I just thought I'd ask.

Why is it the general consensus that TKD is NOT a very effective art? A lot of styles like karate get some sh*t here and there, but overall, people can say that they're not completely useless. TKD is a different matter, and I just wanted to know why.
