In UFC 34 Liddell vs Murilo Bustamante Liddell punched out Bustamante. I haven't seen the fight and wanna know if anyone knows how he avoided going to the ground.
I know Liddell was a college wrestling champion, but he probably was aware that the BJJer could take him on the ground.
Chuck was NOT a college wreslting champion. He was a 4 year starter at his college, but never won a team or individual championship, and was never named an All-Amercian.
Chuck Liddell does have an uncanny ability to not only resist takedowns but to get back on his feet after he has been taken down. He doesn't seem to do anything special, other than willing himself to stand up.
As to how Chuck is able to do this, he trains to do this. Accord to his offical website Chuck works "Takedowns" twice a week when training for a fight. Since I've never seen Chuck take anyone down, I believe this is Takedown defense.
Also it is important to note Chuck stated training in BJJ, before he ever entered the UFC.

Also the fight you are asking about took place in UFC 33. Bustamante wasn't punched out, Chuck won by decision after three rounds.
