After two months of CrossFit....
....I just took my APFT and obliterated all of my previous scores.
Pre Crossfit high scores:
Pushups - 70
Situps - 68
2 Mile Run - 14:20
Note - I have been in the Army for 11 years and these were my all time high scores, not all from the same test.
After 2 months of crossfit I took a record APFT on Monday. The results:
Pushups - 77
Situps - 75
Run - 13:55
Total Score: 284 points out of 300 (I'm 30)
I also qualified for the Army Physical Fitness Excellence Badge for the first time in my career. Next time I'm shooting for a perfect 300.

The local paper here just did a report on crossfit in which the reporter participated for 1 month. He had nothing but good things to say, other than it was pretty damn rough.
It sound's very much like the kind of training my boxing coach had us do in addition to boxing-specific workouts. I'm a very big guy, but in decent shape. When I cut about 20 more pounds I am going to check out crossfit, hell I might check it out sooner.
my boxing coach had me doing the 300 workout 2-3x a week before i got hurted. He also highly recommended other crossfit like workouts for me. my school just started a crossfit program and i will be in attendance upon my return. i know it's going to smoke me but it will only help me get back into the shape i was in when i was training regularly.
damn, if that's not a promotion for crossfit, i don't know what is.
i can't afford it right now, and i doubt my parents would be willing to pay for it. but damn, does it sound awesome.
You don't really have to go to a crossfit gym. You just need some equipment and the internets.
You can do it yourself, as long as you have access to a gym with all the gear. Follow the WOD's(workout of the day) posted somewhere, and make sure your form is correct on the stuff, and thats it.
The only benefit of actually being in a group of people, like a class, is the added motivation. IMHO.
yes, for sure^ but be very careful about your form. That's the hard part with Olympic lifting and the like: if your form's incorrect, you can hurt yourself-badly.
At the very least, doing it wrong is of little benefit. This is how the trend of machine-assisted lifting got started, trying to make exercise fool-proof. It also took outthe real benefits(except for rehab related exercises).
Damn! That's awesome. I would have a chance to keep up on the push ups and sit ups. But I'm pretty sure my heart would explode if I even tried to run 2 miles in 13:55 ...
Need to train Crossfit.
and that is probably why you got hurt. The 300 challenge is not a workout but a means that was used to test the athletes at gym jones. It is not designed nor should be used frequently as a workout
