Soccer kicks

When did we start to see them in major competitions? I know more about early UFC than early PRIDE, and I thought that the UFC banned kicks to the head of a grounded opponent early on, as well as stomps. Had Pride kept consistent rules on them? Is there a strategic choice between soccer kicks and stomps? And lastly, is there any one style that had them before MMA, and brought it with them easily?

initially, they were illegal in pride as well. the early pride rules were actually more restrictive than the current unified rules.

Stomps and soccer kicks were legal in the UFC until UFC 15. Gerard Gordeau used stomps to beat Kevin Rozier in the semis of UFC 1.

I doubt any style trained them particularly, it would have just been taken from one of the many ball-sports which use that kick.

I wouldn't reccomend using them in a real fight unless you want to be up for an attempted murder charge, soccer kicks to the head of a downed opponent are up there with stabbing someone with a knife in Australia.

Soccer-style kicks are less effective than stomps, they tend to 'cradle' the person being hit. Stomps also use the ground under the person, where soccer kicks just kick the person away. Kicks with steel-toe boots however, real effective.

As far as the legal issue, I believe a stomp to the head of someone already down carries a charge of "Mayhem", a violent felony. Kung fu trains stomps. I was taught to not usesoccer kicks, and I've been on the recieving end of soccer kicks and boot kicks, I'd take soccer kicks any day. They actually don't hurt much.

Soccer kicks are good if you are a soccer player.Professional soccer players can kick like a mule. They can literally lift other players off the ground when they kick their supporting leg. They are popular in Brazil because Brazilians say "God is Brazilian and he invented football (that's soccer's real name). If you are not a soccer player, soccer kickin' your opponent is an excellent way to sprain your ankle or break your foot.

With these shoes, trust me, they hurt like hell
