I've noticed that too. I met him a few weeks ago and he had that black eye then too.

Side bar... Are you stationed in UAE? I hear there is good MMA action over there. I've been there on liberty a dozen times, though never at the same time as an event.

    I am, temporarily.

As far as MMA events I keep my ears open for anything at all, but so far I haven't seen or heard anything.

I know they hold the Abu Dhabi Combat Championships and the Emirates Cup over here, but that is grappling only.

I went and tried to find the local BJJ school, only to find it had moved and couldn't find the new location or time to look for it again.

it's great how these figthters appreciate the people who serve their country and make an effort to do things like this.

just curious AMF, what do your badges and stuff represent? a few of my family members have been in the army/navy but i've never seen them in uniform, and i'm pretty sure the badges vary a lot from country to country.

Thanks AMF, just curious. Though I don't see myself going to UAE on vacation, unless I decide to serve again and end up deployed.

Well the shiny one above my ribbons is the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist pin, it used to be voluntary to get it; these days it is mandatory once a person gets to be an E-5 paygrade.

The ribbons are awards I have gotten over the years; sea service, navy acheivement medal, joint meritorius unit commendation, good conduct (cough-didn't-cough-get-cough- caught), NATO medal, and other such things.
