Training with a combat dummy

I purchased one of these about 2 months ago. My old free-standing heavy bag for my home had become torn up.


Quite frankly, I'm impressed with it. Its a lot different from hitting a heavy bag, a lot harder. You really feel like you're hitting a person.

I've noticed my punching precision improve too, especially with hooks and uppercuts, now to me actually having a realistic target.

Kicks are somewhat painful as well. I do them on the bare, no shin/foot guards. Quite frankly, 5-6 in a row and you'll really start to regret going past 2 or 3.

The whole thing (with the base filled) weighs about 250 lbs, fyi.



Now enough of this poorly constructed description of the thing. What do you guys think of training with such a piece? Do you consider it useful? Unnecessary? Tell me what you all think

We tried something similar to this (Centruy BOB). As with all standing bags that we tried, footwork was a real problem.

We also couldn't get one to last more than 5-6 months. They all tore in the neck area.

But the primary thing is whether or not it works for you.

I'd have one just for fun. Like parked in the exitway of my home, so I could randomly jaw the bajesus out of it as I went for the door.

Personally I don't care much for the bob. The fact that he's always standing still and always facing the same direction makes training with him less realistic in a lot of ways than just hitting a heavy bag. Now I can see the bob being useful if you have some issues with targeting, and I prefer hitting a bob over a wavemaster, but I don't think I would waste the money on one unless I for some reason couldn't make it to the gym and had no way of hanging a bag.

if i had to get one. I'd get the hanging version of the dummy. (yes they have one)

that way kicking is much easier.

Correctly mark where the liver is, and work on hitting it consistently with a few techniques. Shovel hooks and SBKs spring to mind.

The only thing I ever liked it for was neck kicks. You can really chop down on it unlike a heavybag.

I just hate that look on his face. He thinks he's so tough.

I actually took a sharpie and gave him some facial hair, chest hair, thick eyebrows, etc. makes him look like a real douchebag and for some reason a lot more fun to hit.

i have tried kicking one............and it hurts even more(even when wearing a shoes)
i only use front kick,back kick,side kick(or any kick that does not use instep) and some punches when training with the dummy(no,not dummy plug).and i also aim for the face and the neck
