You want to say something and you're looking for "permission"
You should know as a cop - there's no permission to be granted for hard choices. In a perfect world, him being on heroin would be nobody else's business, but he's in regular bodily fluid contact with a bunch of people who need to know he's probably got hepatitis. No one should get hep C over the abstract principle of "some guy's privacy"
I think you should tell them even if it costs you training there, to tell you the truth. There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There's no other choice. -

He doesn't sound like the average junkie...training??? I would have concerns about HIV and Hepatitis etc. I think the best way forward is to have a private word in his ear after training one day.-You never know if he says "all that **** is behind me and here is my paperwork to say I'm clean and sober and I'd just like to train please.." then imo nobody needs to know but you and him.
If the guy is getting his **** together it's a rare thing-Don't spoil it for him if that is the case. -

Well, the thing is, this was kinda a question that just popped in to my head but the scenario is true. I arrested the guy last year in the fall. I don't know if he is still training or not or even where he was training. I do know the town he was training in and there is only a few places in that town to train so it would not be hard to find out. I also do know that the guy is still using. I do not know if he is infected with anything but like I said, in my experience I could safely say at least 90% of the junkies I know of are infected with something. So my issue would be if I start training at this particular place and then I either see him or observe his name on a roster or something.

The only problem is if you talk to him about it, he'll say the same ****, clean or not.
There's a only a few things I KNOW to be true but one of them is "junkies lie"There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There's no other choice. -

Yep but if it's anything like over here he may be on a DTTO (Drug treatment and testing order) which are linked to bail etc. This can give recovering junkies documentary proof that they tested clean for controlled substances and it's not unusual for an IV user on detox to have an HIV/Hep test.
I am not suggesting you believe his word alone but if I were you I'd be saying "Ok show me".
