    Unique Triangle Counter

I rushed through this faster then I wanted to because I didn't have much time, and was unprepared, but I think this video still gives a decent description of the details that make the technique work that the original video I posted on youtube and myspace lacked. This video also contains a bonus Triangle that I like, but again it's not the one I use the most, or wanted in the video. That one should be coming up soon, and I'll post it in a seperate thread.

NOTE: often when attempting the technique you will break the triangle instead of trapping the legs in the submission. Simply stay tight over the leg you've trapped and use this opportunity to pass into a dominant position.

    TROUBLESHOOTING

Always make sure your shoulder is as deep in the triangle as possible and your head is up BEFORE you trap the leg! This is for a couple reasons: First, it's so you have the proper angle to submit your opponent effectively; Second, it's so the coratid artery can flow on one side of your neck. If you simply jump over the guys leg without doing so all your opponent would have to do to make things MUCH worse for you is sit up and scoot back.

Here's the orignial video for reference:

n00b question, but if you were to compete in a tournament (or just a lower division) that allowed limited leg locks (read: kneebars), would this be legal? I'm not even sure what's being locked here...is it basically a calf slicer?

That's not a noob question at all. In fact it's a little bit of a gray area that I'm not too sure about myself, but here's what I do know:

Officially this technique is supposed to be a footlock (though it can also be a bit of a slicer [because the malleolus' often dig into the calf and thigh]), which would make it legal in IBJJF tournaments at Brown Belt and above. but wait a minute; according to that logic Anyone under brown belt can cross their feet when they have their hooks in and not have to worry about being countered with an almost instinctive LEGLOCK (when you triangle over the crossed feet and apply pressure)? Fact is, according to the rules this is technically illegal also as it's a blatent leglock; however, I've seen it used in competition as low as white belt for a submission win..

Now in most Submission Grappling tournaments like NAGA (no-gi) it's completely legal at all levels.

Its an ankle lock on his left ankle depending on how deep his triangle is it can be a slicer, it can put pressure on the knee too. I've messed around with it before and feel like an injury waiting to happen (imo).
