I never found it difficult to hit girls. It developed as a survival skill. Let them whallop you once & you won't have that problem anymore.

    Hit girls?
It brings home to me the reality of the problem as JKDchick pointed out.
Other people I know run seperate womens only training, but that is a whole can of worms in itself, and not a practicality for my situation.

Like I said, treat a girl with kid gloves all you want. If she really wants to train, she'll make you regret it.

Well quite frankly I thought you were going to be frank again...
Sorry it is a horrible expression.
Seriously though, your perspective was valuable to me. Im not sure quite what to do now, sure if I was running a commercial setup, we could have seperate sessions which were geared down etc etc, but thats not feasable at the moment. The training time we have got at the moment is precious and very selfishly geared towards what the "lads" feel they need. Maybe one year Ill have more time and freedom.
I have a problem with always wanting to help people.
Perhaps the best thing would be referral to another school. Ive certainly done that many times.

As these women already said they were interested in training, is it not worth at least giving them a chance to try the class? We can theorise as much as we like, but the only way to know for certain if you're capable of teaching women is to try and do so.

Most women have different goals when it comes to martial arts than most men, as soon as they figure out that they are going to get bruised you will lose 9 out of 10. Of course there are exceptions, that one girl will train at your gym for the next decade and there are quite a few delicate males who end up going to wc instead.

The way commercial gyms get around this is by either having a cardio kickboxing womens only class twice a week or just having scores of women come through the classes and being left with a few diehard fighters.

Since you are a bunch of friends, you really don't want to open that drama box. Get the wives to train at a big school for a few months first to build up their basics. If there are any left after that, move them to yours or just have them come in once a week to spar. I agree with JKDChick on this one, i'd probably even wager a fair bit of money that none of the girls make it past 6 months.

Yep. My wife finally got so sick of me training 3 nights a week AND I finally got tired of listening to her complain I suprised her with the Kyra Gracie gi and said, "Lets go, you wanna spend time together lets get a workout while doing it." She came and after a few sessions she got comfortable with the guys in the class, not to mention some of the guys are no bigger than her, she rolls no problem. She has a basic understanding of the ground and it actullay brought us closer together. Now she enjoys class and bust my balls, when i get caught, more than anyone else.

With her joining the class female membership jumped through the roof and we are considering a womens only bjj class.

There is no issue regarding gender. Do what you do, if they don't like it, regardless of the reason, go somewhere else.

The women in my club, though only a few, do well. Including the former Soviet national team player. Anybody that has an issue can either grow up, or do do something that makes them feel good inside.
