After an injury how slow do you come back to training & lifting?
Do you rely on a doctors opinion, how you feel, or a combination?

I'd go with the doctor for a while then very slowly start working out light again. You don't want to **** yourself up.

It differs. By doctor. By condition. Stick with the advice at the very minimum. What is your injury? And what were you told?
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

I have been out 4 months with a torn miniscus.
it is killing me not to train or exercise, I ran 1.5 miles this weekend with no pain at all.
I want to tame my strong desire to go back with the realisztion that it is my knee.
My orthopedist is out, the idiot din't think there was anything wrong till the MRI came back.

Have you evere looked into Active Release Therapy? It can do wonders to help this sort of injury heal up.

Is it a knee injury? I don't know what a miniscus is. If it is lower body, you could always work your upper body because that shouldn't affect it.
