I have been boxing for three weeks now and thought it might be good to invest in chest protection. I am looking for something affordable and preferably something more on the lines of the sports bra types with inserted guards. The outer chest guards look rather cumbersome and uncomfortable to me. Would anyone be able to give me some advice on what type to get and where I could get something decent for a lower price?

My wife uses these:
She has tried a few other options, but really likes the Cool Guard.
I am typically careful about getting anything from Century, but some of their stuff is good.

My wife really liked this one: http://ariesfightgear.com/Merchant2/...est-Protectors
It doesn't actually have the shoulder pieces in this picture; that is just a shirt.

I've never found them necessary. It's pretty rare that you take a hard shot to the boob. Some sanctioning bodies supposedly require them (but no one has ever double checked) so I do have some of the"turtle shell" thingies but they're pretty uncomfortable.
Personally I suggest evasive movement over adding gear. Especially this early in the game. I'd rather someone develop proper body mechanics without compensating for their protective gear first so that they have some basis to know what they should be doing and why the gear interferes wit hit.

Out of curiosity, is how much sparring have you done post-enhancement? I've sparred with some very busty girls at my gym, and they expressed.......slightly diferent opinions about the necessity of those chestguards.

A lot. Of course keep in mind that I'm probably a ****-ton better then all the girls at your gym.

Actually on second thought I did get "dropped" by a boob-shot 1 time. When I was young and... developing(aka super tender)...I got caught right across the nipple with the tip of a shinai and it hurt terrible much.
Other then that getting push kicked in the boob sucks (airman kai ruined my **** with a boob push kick, twice) and getting your nipple nicked by a toe sucks.
Don't think I've ever been punched hard there though.

I have a large chest (D Cup), so I think chest protection will be a must.

I can't figure out a way to talk about my wife's chest without sounding like a sick voyeur/cuckold.
So let me say that she is in the same boat as the OP and only wore hers for very hard sparring or competitions. She also only competed in Kyokushin style tournaments. In those tournaments you can't punch to the face so girls tend to hit each other in the chest a LOT.
