    US Bronze in Womens Judo!

BEIJING, China -- A history-making moment for a Massachusetts resident at the Beijing Olympics.

Ronda Rousey won a bronze medal in the women's middleweight judo competition Wednesday.

It was the first Olympic medal in women's judo for the U.S. since the event became an official sport in 1992.

Rousey is originally from California but lives in Wakefield and trains with former Olympic bronze medalist Jimmy Pedro.

Rousey earned her medal with a yuko, or a sleeve throw of Germany's Annett Boehm.

Japan's Masae Ueno won gold and Cuba's Anaysi Hernandez took

    silver.http://www.thebostonchannel.com/spor...68/detail.html

I remember a thread saying a medal in TKD was our only shot. Good to see we were wrong.

WOOT for Ronda! I saw her final match in the trials and she looked awesome. Ready to take gold.

She took bronze, but I still say that's amazing. Judo hasn't been a strong point for the US in the international scene, so this is DEFINITELY a great thing she has done.

This is great. I just wish she had managed to beat that German girl. That was a really close fight, and Ronda looked so disappointed when she realized she lost.
