Raising this thread for one more question

I've read this thread with the utmost interest, but I've got one final question.

Whilst the principals aren't the same (Judo=technique, SAMBO=root movement, Bjj=position), most of the techniques share the Judo heritage, and here's my question:

Has (sport)SAMBO any techniques that don't excist in a combined training of Judo and Bjj?

I ask this question because there are only two SAMBO clubs in Belgium, so it's impossible to crosstrain in it. But in France it's quiet huge and those guys come also to Belgium to compete in tournaments (primarely Judo, but also grappling under other rulesets).

leglocks? most BJJ schools don't teach them, and they aren't allowed in judo

The straight ankle lock is taught in most jits schools I've seen, but it's usually like some kind of a sick joke that no one gets.

Also, as for Sambo-specific moves, isn't the scissors takedown illegal in Judo these days?

Generally you will get more legwork in sambo than in judo and BJJ. You will definitely get more throwing from sambo than BJJ. You will get variations of throws in sambo that are not in judo as well. Many throws/takedowns in sambo would not be legal in judo or are generally not practiced in judo. Also many sambo throws are distinctly differewnt than judo because of the different jacket and lack of gripping/throwing restrictions in judo.

I know the scissor takedown was illegal in the last BJJ tournament I was in, but strait leg lock are legal.

Thanks for the sambo lessons. I'm really into it. I have been for a long time, only problem is that there are no sambo schools around here. Sucky!! It's gonna take a while for Sambo to catch on in the US just because we have no teachers. There's less than a dozen in America right?

Luckily for you, Beorn, there is an upcoming seminar, taught by a great SAMBOist, not too far from c-bus...

PROOF that I'm not a completely useless poster:

Moose, I already said I am going, and I will beat you while I am there. However, this does not excuse me from trying to find some consistent sambo training if I can.
